St Boniface is a Roman Catholic Primary School provided by the Diocese of Salford and is maintained by the Salford Local Education Authority as a Voluntary Aided School. The school’s Governing Body is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for taking decisions on applications for admissions.
Religious Life of the School
Our Mission Statement at St Boniface RC Primary School emphasises that we centre our life on Jesus Christ, the spiritual foundation of our community. We also aim to strengthen the links between the home, the parish and our school. For the teachers, each school year begins when they join the parishioners for Mass at St Boniface Chapel prior to their in-service training day. A whole school Mass is celebrated at the beginning and end of each term. Each week there is a class Mass in school to which all parents and parishioners are invited. The day and times of these Masses will be announced in the Parish bulletin and in school. Holy Days are celebrated with parents and parishioners in school.
The children develop a sense of commitment to others less fortunate than themselves by raising money for CAFOD, St Joseph’s Penny and at least one other charity a year.
The child’s Sacramental Programme is supported by the home, the parish and the school. Other children in the school are strongly encouraged to participate and be involved in the Sacramental Programme celebrations.
There is a whole school assembly every Monday morning and Friday afternoon. Other assemblies, especially prepared by one of the classes, also take place throughout the year to which all parents are invited. There are mini-retreats for the Junior children especially during Lent. In Advent there are Nativity plays performed by the Foundation Stage and Infant children and a play or Advent service led by the Junior children. There are special assemblies and services during Holy Week, to help focus minds on the events leading up to Easter.
Withdrawal from Collective Worship and Religious Education
Parents have the right to withdraw children from both Religious Education and Collective Worship, but it is anticipated by the Governing Body that those specifically choosing Catholic education will wish to lend their support to maintaining both the full spiritual life of the school and those aims set out in the Mission Statement.
The talents we wish to foster are not only academic, we wish to develop their physical and sporting skills, to promote musical and artistic talents and to increase the maturity of their school relationships.
All classes have a wide and diverse range of ability. Classes at present are made up of one age-group only. There is a mixture of teaching styles utilised to ensure maximum learning across the curriculum. Sometimes children will be taught as a whole class, in ability groups, in mixed ability groups, friendship groups or individually. This will depend on the class teacher using his / her judgement concerning the lesson to be taught. This school has planned its programme of study to ensure that all children cover the appropriate areas of the National Curriculum. Detailed booklets outlining National Curriculum areas and what children are expected to do will be given to parents on admission to the school.
